New look

Well, I've got a new look, and a new name. The web address will be changing soon too, but not quite yet.

The name, btw, is courtousy of Caitlin, who thought it up for our school Knitting Club. (Although we still call it Knitting Club).

I just finished Zeeby's bag out of Stitch 'n Bitch. I'm not sure what my next project will be. I'm doing lights for my school production of Grease right now, so I'm kinda busy. We open Wednesday!

I know everyone loves Grease, but not me. Among my favorite musicals are Annie (in which I was Tessie, one of the orphans, in 8th grade), Hello Dolly!, and The Music Man. We were going to do West Side Story, but they changed it to Grease (hell-o, they only did Grease @ my school less than 10 yrs ago!). They were also going to do Anne of Green Gables in the spring, but they changed that to Much Ado About Nothing (well, it is traditional to do some Shakespear).
(We did Rumors by Neil Simon in the fall - it was so funny!).

Now, go read Meg Cabot's "Cat Door" post - it's also funny!

Well

Today my spanish teacher told me not to knit in class.

Which was, like, the most bogus thing EVER, because we were watching a movie. HELLO, I can TOTALLY follow the plot line of two guatamalens who illegally imigrate to LA AND knit!!!!

Besides, it's not even very good to just watch TV, it's better if you, y'know KNIT OR SOMETHING!!!!!(see this for more).

Geez.

Also, I have heard the BTW driving teacher (btw is behind the wheeel, not by the way - I'm taking Driver's Ed) WON'T LET YOU KNIT.

Well, I am going to knit in BOTH situations.

I also have officially come over to J.'s dark side, and officially hate spanish.

The class. Not the whole language. Yet.

Cupcakes

Last night I was home, rather than going to my schools' Sadie Hawkins dance. None of the boys at my school are up to my standards....as far as I can tell right now. So I baked cupcakes. I used the recipe for cherry vanilla cupakes from Cupcake Bakeshop, only I didn't have any vanilla. I had mapaline, and lemon extract, BUT NO VANILLA (note to self: add vanilla to the grocery list). I also didn't want to fill them (out of lazyness). I looked in my fridge and found a bag of oranges! Then for the frosting, I wanted to stay with the citrus thing, so I made lemon-orange frosting. Here's what I came up with.

Orange Cupcakes (adapted from Cupcake Bakeshop's recipe for cherry vanilla cupcakes)
Aprox 30 cupcakes.

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temp
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
2 and 3/4 cups all purpose flour
1 and 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
Zest of one orange
2 teaspoons juice from said orange (You can drink the rest, or use it in the frosting. Freshly squeezed orange juice is really good).

Beat butter until soft. Add sugar. Beat on medium-high until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating in between. Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separte bowl. Add to mixer along withmilk, orange zest, and orange juice. Mix until combined. Fill cupcake papers half to two-thirds full. Bake at 350 for 22-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. It only took my 18 minutes for 6 cupcakes in my toaster oven (my normal oven is out of whack). Frost with lemon orange frosting (below).

Lemon-Orange frosting

1 stick butter
3-4 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 teaspoon orange juice (the kind you drink for breakfast is fine)
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1/4 cup milk

Sift powdered sugar. Beat butter until creamy. Add half of the sugar, the orange juice, lemon juice, and the milk. Beat until combined. Add the rest of the powdered sugar until you get a good consitancy. Spread on orange cupcakes.

Enjoy! If you come up with a better slogan for my blog (I changed it - did you notice?), or even a better name, let me know!
